My Personal Branding Journey

I’ve always had trouble understanding the concept of personal branding. After reading a number of leadership thought pieces, seeing professionals discuss this subject, etc., it also made me feel inferior.
I had doubts about my ability to establish a personal brand. I felt humiliated and defeated because I believed it to be out of my reach.

After some time, I came to understand that my “Unique Selling Proposition (USP)” constituted the core of my own brand. It was not an exercise in peer comparison or imitation. After learning about this paradigm, I was able to move forward.

Identify My Life’s Core Values

My core principles are composed of humility, self-respect, trust, compassion, transparency, and commitment. To live an ethical life is a test of character. At least now I understand how important it is to act quickly to fix a mistake that I have made.

It requires persistence and deliberate effort to establish “Personal credibility.” No matter how difficult the circumstances, we must never waver from our fundamental principles. Only then will people begin to believe what you say and do. You will hold certain moral principles in high regard. Your character is reflected in your core principles. These serve as the cornerstone for your following step.

Determining My USP

It was alluring for me to highlight every talent and competency on my CV and other online platforms. But it didn’t pay off in dividends. Once more, I was just incredibly frustrated.

It was important, in my opinion, to distinguish between “breadth” and “depth” when describing our value contributions. Breadth humbles you and broadens your perspectives. Exposure to multiple functional areas fosters creativity and innovation. It is possible to see and investigate various execution methods. You might, however, be viewed as a jack of all trades and a master of none if you lack expertise in a particular field.

Depth enables you to win people’s respect. It draws attention to you and exhibits qualities such as dedication, perseverance, goal-setting, enthusiasm, and interest. It allows you the freedom to investigate various aspects of a subject. It may, however, blur your vision if you are not careful. You must remember how crucial it is to “Be yourself.” Everybody else has already been claimed.

Helping Others Resolve Issues

It makes perfect sense to showcase our accolades and successes. Nothing is wrong with it. However, I discovered that it wasn’t about boasting about my accomplishments.

Conversely, the focus was entirely on pinpointing problems, difficulties, and obstacles. that those in my audience were seeking answers. Being proactive and working together with people without any expectations is also important. It will be feasible to present your business value proposition, ROIs, etc. during the process. Your concepts and insights will undoubtedly turn into success stories in due course.

Networking is Key

In the beginning of my profession, I was quiet and reserved. Having to greet and stand in front of a crowd was a daunting experience. It was becoming obvious to me that I would not be able to increase my visibility unless I stepped outside of my comfort zone.

The goal is to establish a sizable, wholesome network of people with whom one can exchange knowledge and seek support when needed. Recalling that networking is a two-way street is crucial.
Advice

You are the sum of your memories, or your unique brand. Networking has the power to elevate your personal brand when done tastefully and skillfully.

Be Consistency at it

I had a great mood when I launched my campaign. The strategy was set. I began networking, posting, debating, etc. However, my drive levels declined when I discovered the answer was mediocre. I was left thinking if this was actually the best course of action. I suddenly stopped working on any projects that would help me promote my brand. I lost all of my network’s experts, wonderful friends, and connections. To make up for lost time and confidence, I had to start over. You need to make sure that your personal brand promotion strategy is consistent rather than focused on irregular increases.

Rebranding My Brand

Having gone through every step of the personal branding process, I was happy. I did, however, eventually feel excluded. The reason for this is that I did not keep myself informed about the expectations and tendencies of the present. I then realized that developing my personal brand requires learning, unlearning, and relearning.

The trick is to strategically decide how you want to be seen, craft a compelling narrative that explains your development, and then communicate that message.

Conclusion

For better or worse, in today’s world everyone is a brand. Whether you’re applying for a job, asking for a promotion, or writing a dating profile, your success will depend on getting others to recognize your value. So you need to get comfortable marketing yourself.

I know it’s challenging. But the long-term gains are really worth making this attempt.  Don’t delay! I encourage you to take action now!
